A“Bethany was shocked when she received divorce papers from Larry.

Bethany was sitting quietly on the couch, flipping through some old photos on her phone. The house felt unusually silent, but she brushed it off, thinking Larry was just busy again.
Knock. Knock.
She frowned. “Who could that be?”
Opening the door, she found a courier standing there.
“Delivery for Bethany,” he said.
She signed absentmindedly and closed the door, staring at the envelope. Something about it felt… heavy.
Her fingers trembled as she opened it.
The moment her eyes landed on the words inside, her breath caught.
“Divorce papers…?” she whispered, her voice shaking.
Her heart started racing. “No… this has to be a mistake.”
Just then, the front door opened.
Larry walked in.
Bethany quickly stood up, holding the papers in her hand.
“Larry… what is this?” she asked, her voice breaking.
Larry froze for a second. His eyes dropped to the envelope, then back to her face.
“You got them…” he said quietly.
Bethany’s expression changed from confusion to pain.
“So it’s true? You’re divorcing me… without even telling me first?”
Larry sighed and looked away. “Bethany, I didn’t know how to say it.”
“You didn’t know how to say it?!” she snapped. “So you thought sending papers was better?!”
Silence filled the room.
Bethany stepped closer, tears now streaming down her face.
“We were fine, Larry. At least I thought we were… Was all of that fake?”
Larry clenched his jaw. “It wasn’t fake… but things haven’t been right for a long time.”
“Then why didn’t you talk to me?” she cried. “We could have fixed it!”
Larry shook his head slowly. “Some things can’t be fixed.”
Bethany felt like the ground beneath her had disappeared. She sank back onto the couch, gripping the papers tightly.
“All those promises…” she whispered. “You said we’d never give up.”
Larry’s voice softened, but it didn’t ease the pain.
“I didn’t want to hurt you like this… but staying would’ve been worse.”
Bethany looked up at him, disbelief in her eyes.
“Worse than this? You think this doesn’t hurt?!”
Larry didn’t answer.
That silence said everything.
After a few moments, Bethany wiped her tears, her expression slowly hardening.
“Fine,” she said quietly. “If this is what you want… then go.”
Larry hesitated, as if he wanted to say something more—but he didn’t.
He turned and walked away.
The door closed behind him.
Bethany sat there alone, staring at the divorce papers in her hands… her world completely shattered.
But deep inside, something else began to grow—not just pain… but strength.
