The hospital hallway was silent except for the sound of distant footsteps and machines beeping behind closed doors. The air felt heavy, filled with tension and fear.
Inside room 214, Anthony lay unconscious on the hospital bed. His face was pale, and the steady beep of the heart monitor was the only sign that he was still fighting.
Amber sat beside him, holding his hand tightly. Her eyes were red from hours of crying, but she refused to leave his side.
“Please wake up, Anthony,” she whispered, tears falling down her cheeks. “You promised me everything would be okay.”
